„Fall Blau” - War for Oil - Maikop, Caucasus - 1942
During Germany’s drastic push to secure the oil fields of the Black Sea Ports; After severe rolling battles.. A panzer commander at the spearhead of Army Group South rolls into the port town of Maikop only to find the wells sabotaged and in flames. The Germans push towards the Caucasus, and Stalingrad orchestrating the utter destruction of the 6th Army, is often viewed as the turning point of the war.
The fuhrer blamed the failure of Barbarossa on the Wehrmacht’s lack of resolve and fighting spirit. With Fall Blau they could prove their worth, Hitler argued. He told the Wehrmacht’s High Command, “Either I get the oil of Maikop and Grozny, or I must put an end to this war.” The operation was an utter failure, and German gains in territory heavily receded until the inevitable utter destruction of Berlin.
