Since this has now made the rounds with this added caption I figure I should put it back into context. A great day..? Quite the opposite actually.
One of the last photos taken of Hermann Bruhl; June 26, 1957. Seen descending the summit of the Chogolisa, only hours before falling to his death from a broken cornice. Though reaching the peak of the treacherous mountain range was quite an achievement, his death was a tragedy in the climbing world.

A soldier from a Mountain Infantry Regiment (Gebirgsjäger) aims his MG-34 mounted on a tripod for use against aircraft. A full 360 degree traverse was possible with the tripod mount. Note the anti-aircraft spider sight, used in conjunction with the rear sights.
